In November 2024, the Coriolis Micro, the previous version of Coriolis+, was deployed for a unique scientific mission at Kawah Wayang, a geothermal site located in Bandung, Indonesia.
Supported by our distributor AdviSains, the team from the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) collected bioaerosol samples from multiple locations around the crater as part of a university course focused on microbial ecology and biosystematics.
Thanks to the portability and ruggedness of the Coriolis Micro, researchers were able to conduct air sampling directly in challenging field conditions. The samples will be analyzed in the lab using advanced molecular techniques, including PCR, sequencing, and next-generation sequencing, to explore the microbial diversity of this unique ecosystem. .
“ The tools, Coriolis Micro, are very modern and their practical use is highly suitable for fieldwork,” says Mr. Intan Taufik, Ph.D., project lead at SITH ITB.
This field mission highlights the key role of Coriolis Micro in the study of extreme environments. By enabling the collection of samples directly from the heart of an active volcanic crater, it opens the door to new observations on microbial life in geothermal conditions.
This project is another strong example of how Coriolis Micro supports real-world scientific research.
