Astronomy is entering a new era with the Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS), a state-of-the-art instrument recently installed on the Subaru telescope in Hawai’i.
Developed as part of an international collaboration, this spectrograph makes it possible to simultaneously observe thousands of celestial objects and analyse their light with unrivalled precision. Thanks to this technology, astronomers will be able to explore fundamental questions about the evolution of galaxies, the structure of the Universe and the mysterious dark energy.
Among the 20 international institutions involved in the design, manufacture, integration, and testing of the PFS, Bertin Winlight, a brand of Bertin Technologies, played a key role in manufacturing the spectrographs.
