[PRECELLYS] Improving Protein Extraction Efficiency from Porcine Cardiac Tissue using the Precellys 24-Dual

Context

In pre-clinical pharmacology studies, tissue biomarkers are routinely analyzed in our lab. Tissue homogenization is a very critical step to minimize experimental variability in biomarker analysis. To account for biological and experimental variability, biomarker values are generally expressed per mg protein present in homogenates. Cardiac tissue is difficult to homogenize in comparison to brain, spinal cord, liver, kidney etc., and is prone to highly variable protein recovery. We use protein concentration (mg/g tissue) as an indicator of homogenization efficiency. Here we compare cardiac tissue homogenization efficiency using Polytron® and Precellys® homogenizers.
